The faculty members of the Department of Statistics and Data Science are prominent scholars, researchers and consultants, as well as dedicated teachers. 

All are actively engaged in research being published in professional journals. Their research has been funded by major grants from private organizations and governmental agencies, including the Department of Energy, Advanced Research Projects Agency, National Science Foundation, Office of Naval Research, Department of Education, Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the National Institutes of Health, Department of Veteran Affairs, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

We offer a discount on tuition from all classes in the MDSAS program on a need- and GPA-related case-by-case basis. We also offer a limited number of teaching assistantships.

Students have the opportunity to pursue common interests with faculty members through informal discussions, weekly research seminars and joint research activities. Students may also attend bisemester meetings of the North Texas Chapter of the American Statistical Association and hear an outstanding array of speakers from academia, business and industry.

Some faculty members conducting research involve MDSAS students to assist them. The program assists as much as possible with locating employment opportunities for students seeking internships, part-time and full-time jobs. There are also opportunities to hear various company representatives (often alumni) who come to campus to describe their work and employment opportunities.

The median annual wage for statisticians was $103,300 in May 2024, according to the . 糖心Vlog graduates with this degree had a slightly higher annual salary of $110,000 as of 2024.

At a high level, you will learn how to effectively analyze large datasets and be able to extract key information from the data. This often allows one to make inferences about a population and, therefore, make meaningful predictions in a business, sports and medical-related settings, among others. Important courses are experimental statistics, machine learning in Python, applied time series analysis, data visualization, and a consulting course which in which a real dataset is analyzed in a consultant-client setting.
